Rise of the #Hashtag’s Power

A #hashtag is now mightier than the pen and the sword, here’s why. On the eve of the bloody Brussels attacks, the Federal Prosecutor Frederic Van Leeuw, Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel and Vice-Prime Minister and Interior Minister Jan Jambon addressed the world, telling them what happened and the Belgian Government will do about it.

All the world was watching, and on the podium where they gave their speech was nothing but 2 prints: the hashtag #BEGOV and Federale Regering (or the Federal Government of Belgium). Nothing else. In their background, the backdrop just said Belgique and Belgie.

Why you MUST use Samsung SideSync in your Social Media Marketing

,

My life was miserable until someone told me to start using the amazing Samsung SideSync application. Here’s my story:

As a marketing communications specialist, I’m tasked with writing content for social media accounts.

I’m also in charge of posting the right content to the right social media channel. (i.e. Facebook pages, Twitter accounts, Instagram, etc.).

Using my humble Samsung Android phone, I used to suffer with the inaccurate navigation of the touch screen, the lack of proper copy / paste functions, and most of all: the inability to use the glorious mouse! [Shoot me, I’m an avid point-and-click type of user]

My Top Five Marketing Tips For Startups

, ,

Make no doubt about, there are no marketing tips that fits all. Marketing works on a case by case basis. No two companies are the same and some forms of marketing tips work better with some companies more than others.

However, I have decided to write down my own personal list of online and offline marketing tips. I want to make it crystal clear from the beginning that not all of these marketing tips are necessarily relevant to your company.

As it is always the case with any type of marketing tips, you should think about – and consider – each tip, and ask yourself: “is it a good idea for my company?” Having said this, you should not let your fear stop you from trying out new ideas and tips. Let’s get going:

Why Did Google Ads Change Their Policy

, ,

As I’ve written before, technology companies are skilled in the art of making decisions without much real logic behind them. Even now, Google Ads most recent policy change isn’t as drastic as the examples I listed before, yet it is equally mind boggling. Your name and face photo can and will be used in Google Ads from 11th November 2013, unless you opt out.

Google’s stock (GOOG) recently entered the “$1000+ dollar club“, closing at $1,011 and thus pushing their current market value to around $334bn. Now, the question that forces itself is: with all these record profits, why is Google making such a rash decision to start using your face in their online ads, using your Google+ profile as the source of your photos.

Top 5 Social Media Fails of 2013

,

Let’s be real–none of us want to be sold to 24/7. But “liking” our favorite companies on Facebook can sometimes be a great way to stay in the loop on exclusive promotions and daily specials. Maybe your neighborhood restaurant uses their Twitter feed to give shoutouts to customers, or that retailer you love (but is too pricey to shop all the time) posts sales there first. We”ve all done it, and usually it’s worth the trouble to hit “Follow” and “Like”.

Why Do People Follow Facebook Brand Pages

, ,

Facebook brand pages is a series business and LARGE marketing departments exist only for that purpose. Facebook has bypassed search engines as the number one source for bringing visitors to my blogs. That’s the case with many other bloggers and websites. The old saying: “Facebook is the internet” might not be that far from the truth at the moment. With Facebook’s total number of users crossing 1.4 billion users, and if we assume majority of those are real not fake, that means Facebook reaches ~17% of the world’s population.

Successfully-Funded Kickstarter Videogames Traits

, , ,

If you are reading this post, then it means you are considering using, or at the very least know of, the crowd-funding website Kickstarter. So far it has taken the internet by storm. It started with Double Fine’s Kickstarter videogame project for a point and click adventure (which got $3,336,371 in funding), followed by other famous developers who got their Kickstarter Videogames projects funded as well. Examples of Kickstarter Videogames that come to mind are also Obsidian Entertainment and Lord British, aka Richard Garriott.

Visual Content Drives Engagement On Facebook in 2013

,

But first, what is visual content or rather visual content marketing?

Simply put, your visual content has to make your marketing campaign stick and resonate with prospects.

Visual content comes in many forms, i.e. videos, infographics, photos, emojis, memes, etc.

In this post, we concentrate on the importance of using visual content on social media channels, mainly Facebook.

According to a study released by Simply Measured in summer of year 2013, 98% of top brands have a Facebook fan page. 60% of them post at least one time per day.

Yet the frequency of posts is not that effective in engaging fans than a brand’s content strategy.

What the study found is that visual content is the primary driver for engagement on Facebook. Photos accounted for 95% of total engagement.

Overall, photos posted by top brands average more than 9,400 engagements per post, while video posts average more than 2,500 engagements.
